Dear Esteemed Advisors and Honorable Delegates,
My name is Julienne Jeong and it is my honor, on behalf of our Secretariat Team, to invite you to this year’s Knights Model United Nations Conference Session II hosted by The Bishop’s School in La Jolla on April 1st. I have the privilege of continuing to serve as the Secretary-General and as the second convening of the KnightsMUN Conference quickly approaches, it brings me great pleasure to thank the advisors, participants, organizers, and leaders that made last year’s conference very successful.
This year’s conference will involve a range of committees and topics, including a Historical Crisis Committee redrawing the map of Africa in the Berlin Conference of 1885, and a Security Council discussing the drug trade, violence, and conflict in Central America’s Northern Triangle. We will also explore prevalent issues of waterborne diseases and humanitarian crises. Many of these global inequities are ones that most of us have already heard of, which gives us a greater responsibility to delve deeper into the discrepancies of these complex issues, to analyze them beyond what we are familiar with— making the familiar somewhat unfamiliar. During discussions and debates, we hope you all can shine new perspectives and share different points of view. After all, as these matters are still ongoing, it is our obligation to be diligent and imaginative as we form short-term and long-term solutions that address the roots of the problem. Thus, with these responsibilities in mind, we urge you to remember our conference theme: Collaboration Over Competition.
As driven and intelligent people, we have the power to discover and to transform. We encourage you to voice your opinions eloquently, delicately, and passionately as you also listen to the concerns of other delegates. Ultimately, we must be able to recognize the needs of the people we seek to benefit, and we can do so by treating all members as leaders and experts.
The Secretariat Team and I are looking forward to hearing about your purposeful solutions. We welcome delegates of all levels of experience and we hope to see you all in April.
Julienne Jeong (‘17)
